4th of July Festivities 7-6-2015

Hello everyone!
So, evidently the 4th of July is pretty well celebrated over here. We went to an organized city firework show and it wasn't as big as some others that I had seen or as long, but what makes up for it is all the people setting off their own illegal fireworks and not giving two hoots. We started seeing fireworks around the beginning of the week and it's a beautiful thing being up so high in our apartment building because it's really easy for us to see a lot of them. So we enjoyed those little illegal fireworks all week long leading up to a cool little show that we were able to go to on Saturday night. The entire mission had permission to stay out late to see shows, they just had to be home by 11:30. We ended up getting home a little after 11 and I fell asleep without a problem in spite of all the fireworks still going off, but evidently my companion had a hard time sleeping through them and he said that they were going off until like 12:30, makes me wonder how late people are doing stuff for New Years around here. All in all it was a pretty mellow 4th though, no parades or anything like that, was just a normal day for us up until we headed to a member's house for a BBQ and then went to the fireworks.
The rest of the week was pretty interesting, we talked to a couple of guys at a bus stop who seemed pretty interested, so that was good, but we were stopped by another toothless crazy this week. So this guy's name is Tony, and of the crazies we've talked to he seemed the most self aware, but he'd get himself really worked up, almost to like an anger, and kind of be yelling at us, but it wasn't because he was angry, I think he was just really trying to get his point across. That or he was actually upset, because he was talking about the purpose of life and would get worked up when he was asking us "what's the point?!" When he was fired up he would spit a whole lot though and eventually he would see himself spitting and stop and apologize and calm himself down. He also let me talk a little bit! At that point Elder Torres was talking to someone else, so I was all on my lonesome with Tony. But he actually let me speak, which was cool because usually the crazies just talk your ear off and tell you all about whatever it is they're talking about. But yeah! We had a conversation! Other than that we had some less actives come to church yesterday and had a solid week! Heard some gunshots throughout the week, preached the gospel to some folks and had some good food. Hope everything is going well for you guys back home! I hope everyone had a splendid 4th of July! God has certainly blessed this wonderful country. Have a wonderful week everyone!
Elder Alan Jordan
